Lead Pastor at Kaufman Mennonite Church in Davidsville, PA

Overview:

The Lead Pastor is responsible for working with the church board and staff to cast a vision for and lead the congregants of Kaufman Mennonite Church (KMC). The position is full time and salary is commensurate to responsibilities with consideration given to experience, education, and work history.

Kaufman Mennonite was established as an Anabaptist congregation in 1909 and is an influential presence in the community of Conemaugh Township, Somerset County. Service to the local community and to the larger world is an important activity as they share the love of Christ with everyone and are empowered by the Holy Spirit desire to be Jesus’ hands to the world. Weekly attendance ranges from 150 to 200 and new believers regularly come to faith and join in the journey of discipleship. Kaufman Mennonite exists to invest, connect and unify with Jesus, each other, our local community and the world.

Required Qualifications:

Spiritual

Qualified candidates must possess a strong personal faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and a strong commitment to the scriptures as God’s authoritative word.

In addition, candidates should:
  1. Demonstrate evidence of the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23).
  2. Possess a desire to fulfill the Great Commission.
  3. Maintain a consistent devotional life of prayer and Bible study.
  4. Be Spirit-filled, believing in all and functioning in some of the gifts outlined in 1 Cor 12: 7-11.
  5. Other qualities include humility, a servant’s heart, and an understanding of God’s word to discern with wisdom and guard against false teaching.
Experience and Educational

Preferred qualifications:

  1. At least 5 years of pastoral leadership experience, ideally within a multi staff church.
  2. A demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to Anabaptist theology as described in the Confession of Faith in a Mennonite Perspective, 1995.
  3. Some formal training in counseling, conflict resolution, and Bible doctrine is preferable.
  4. A higher education degree as an added benefit.
Leadership

A qualified candidate must be a team builder who is: 

  1. A good communicator, approachable, and enthusiastic.
  2. A visionary who motivates and empowers others.
  3. One who models, equips, and inspires others to do the work of ministry.
  4. An effective leader within a team setting.
  5. Teach the Word to convey the” why behind the what” thus making active participants versus passive spectators.
Primary Responsibilities

The essential duties of the lead pastor will be carried out in the context of the staff team and ministry leaders. The intent is for the pastor to give leadership both spiritually and administratively to the team and staff.

KMC embodies five core ministries to include Missions, Christian Education, Evangelism / Outreach, Congregational Care, and Worship.

The Lead Pastor will:

  1. Provide support and oversight to all ministries and delegate, as appropriate, other members of the team to lead.
  2. Preach biblical and dynamic sermons that draw people to intimacy with Christ.
  3. Work at developing new leaders to rise up and go.
  4. Provide spiritual leadership to the church and consistently cast the vision of the Great Commission.
  5. Participate in Evana Network activities to include monthly huddles with pastor peers and Regional Pastor along with Bi-annual Conference and Annual Pastors Retreat. Applicant must also sign Evana Network’s Personal Covenant as a condition for continuing employment.
  6. Be accountable to the church board and work with the board to set goals and receive performance feedback through an annual evaluation process.
